Iraq's ambassador to Sweden was called to the foreign ministry on Wednesday amid reports Iraq's Stockholm embassy had issued some 26,000 passports on false grounds, the ministry said.
"The ambassador said the reports were false and he denied the embassy was involved in any wrongdoing," ministry spokesman Andre Mkandawire told AFP.

31st January 2007Swedish free daily Metro on Wednesday reported that the Iraqi embassy in Stockholm had issued some 26,000 passports in the past two years without carrying out sufficiently rigorous identity checks.
The paper quoted Swedish Migration Board officials as saying they had information that people from Syria, Iran, Turkey and Lebanon were being told that they could apply for Iraqi passports at the Iraqi embassy in Stockholm.
Passports were issued to asylum seekers to Sweden and Norway through the Stockholm embassy, the paper alleged.
هذا علما بأن السفير العراقي لم يعترف بهذا الخبر عندما استدعته الحكومة السويدية وقال أن السفارة غير متورطة في أعمال غير صحيحية
وقد اقتبست صحيفة الميترو اليومية عن مسؤولين في دائرة الهجرة السويدية أن مواطنين سوريون وايرانيون وأتراك ولبنانيون يطلب منهم التقديم للحصول على جوازات سفر عراقية من سفارة العراق في ستوكهولم عاصمة السويد.
ملاحظة: هاتين الصحيفتين محترفتين ولا يمكن أن يوقعا أنفسهما في ورطة قد تحيلهما إلى القضاء.
ولو أن هذا الكلام صحيح ألم يكن حري بأن تصرف هذه الجوازات لعراقيين داخل العراق لكي يتمكنوا من الخلاص من العنف في البلد ويفروا بأنفسهم الى خارجه!!!! ولكن يبدوا أن الدفع (التوريق في السويد) أكبر بكثير من الأربعة أو الخمس ورقات التي تدفع داخل العراق للحصول على الجواز...
أو قد يكون لها بعدا سياسيا أعمق من هذا كله
