In the small town of Kentwood, LA, Britney Jean Spears was born on the 2nd of December, 1982. At the age of eight, Spears started auditioning for Disney Channel's The New Mickey Mouse Club. Although the producers of the show turned her down because she was too young, one of them took an interest in her http://www.arabia.msn.com/providersimages/special/britney1.jpgand she was introduced to an agent in New York. She spent the next three years studying at The Professional Performing Arts School. When she turned 11, Spears returned to The New Mickey Mouse Club for a second audition and this time she succeeded.
She returned to New York when she was just 15 and started auditioning for pop bands and recording demo tapes. She was even able to land a deal with Jive Records. With the help of writer/producer Eric Foster and the top Swedish pop mastermind Max Martin, Spears was able to release her debut single "Baby One More Time" in 1998.

Early 1999, an album with the same title was released. It was a huge success; it entered the charts atnumber one and stayed there for six weeks. The album included hits such as "You Drive me Crazy", "Sometimes" and "From the Bottom of My Broken Heart". By the end of 1999, "Baby One More Time" had sold ten million copies.

It quickly entered the Top Ten race and the album sold over a million copies in the first week, thus setting a new record for copies sold by a female artist in a single week. A year later, the album had managed to sell over nine million copies.
Spears was not through yet; she released other hit singles soon after. Among the songs were "Lucky", "Stronger", and "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know", which was co-written by Shania Twain and her producer Mutt Lange.

By late 2001, Spear's third album "Britney" hit the markets. But this time, the singles "I'm a Slave 4 U" and "Overprotected" weren't that successful; they missed the Top Ten. Little did she know that 2002 was going to be another big disappointment; Spear's first film "Crossroads" hit the theatres, but the performance was anything but successful.
Spears then took a long break from show business. She made her comeback at the end of 2003 with her new album "In the Zone". Britney's latest album "Greatest Hits: My Prerogative" was recently released at the end of 2004.
